The Variety artlcle, posted August 1st, said his stint was ending next month so......

Not only are there still big crowds at the stage door but the majority seem to be waiting for Ashley and he is the only one that elicits screams.

(On another tangent, after my last post, I checked out another Ashley board; there's a fan who had asked how to meet him and get a pic. I told her just go to the stage door,he's
really nice and stops for everyone, etc.... She went recently and said that after waiting for 45 minutes,right in front by the barricade, Ashley stopped for everyone to the right and left of her but ignored her and her only??? This certainly doesn't sound like the Ashley I know! In my experience, not only does he stop for fans but also tries to accomodate people who aren't just in the 1st row. In sounded kinda odd that he wouldn't stop for 1 person while stopping for people on either side of her? The last time I was at the stage door (front and center, of course!) the guy who I asked to take a pic of us was having trouble with the camera; Ashley, in the meantime, moved down the line to greet other fans but came back to me to take the pic within 5 minutes. )

I'm so glad that somebody else asked him about a closing date (although if he "thinks" it sounds like he's not sure? I think it's unlikely this time but perhaps another extension? All these extensions really spoiled me!) If his date coincides w/ Broadway on Broadway that would mean a double dose of Ashley in 1 day! Too much of a good thing is.....GREAT!

I did standing room once (not at "Hairspray") and I thought I was gonna pass out! I definitely dont recommend it.

I was at the Bryant Park concert too! There was a 75 percent chance of rain and I was afraid it might be cancelled again but I called right before I was ready to leave and they said it was still on even though it looked like it was about to pour but I took my chances. (Last time they cancelled the day before even though the chance of rain was predicted to be less.)

Last year I remember Ashley posing w/ fans & signing autographs for awhile before he was set to go on. This time when I went up to him the first number was already underway. I hesitated a little at first because he was hanging out w/ cast members and friends but then I saw other people were going up to him. (I asked someone to watch my seat.) I figured it was easier to catch him before he performed rather than after; last year's peformance was during a heat wave and he, understandably, didn't want to stay outside longer than necessary. Last year I had a very good seat that I thought I'd lose (I don't know why I didn't ask someone) so that time I lost a chance to talk to him before he went on stage.

This time he gave me a big hello and a hug. Plus, I was able to make him laugh! Of course you know I had to ask him about his closing date. It's my greeting! He did indeed say it's September 14th as of right now. I asked him if he thought he would stay on if they offered but he said he felt that, perhaps, it might be time to move on. Basically, he didn't say yes and he didn't say no outright, only that nothing had been signed. However, I got the feeling that, like he said, this might be it.

At that point I didn't ask for a pic because I felt he had been very generous with his time but towards the end I asked the actor who plays Seaweed (who I think is also very good, by the way) if he would take a pic of me & Ashley if Ashley was willing. Ashley stopped for me even though I think he was just about ready to leave but I don't know if the pic is gonna come out!

When Aubrey came out to make the "Hairspray" intro and announced she was NOT singing today nobody in the audience seemed terribly disappointed. She was wearing a short, vey sparkly dress ( a bit much for lunchtime) and was holding a dog that had been dyed pink. (Poor thing!)

The show started at 12:30 and Ashley came on around 1 p.m. singing "It Takes Two". When he came on he greeted the audience, the only performer, I believe, to do so and gestured to everyone as he left.
