I went to Ashley's last performance. (Surprise, surprise!) During "It Takes Two" his shirt was unbuttoned; it always is but this time I mean WAY unbuttoned! (not that I'm complaining.) His last day, my parting gift. Thanks Ashley!

Ashley took about an hour to come out. The crowd at the stage door wasn't as large as I thought it would be. I only saw 1 girl crying. Normally Ashley is behind the barricade but this time he mingled on the sidewalk before going off to celebrate. He said he was sorry he couldn't bring everybody along. (I heard 1 girl say the place he was going to had a capacity of 35 but the guest list was already up to 60.)

I gave him my card which he said he would read , got 2 hugs (1 when he 1st came out and another after he came around the barricade) and, of course, a pic.

Somebody asked him what was next and Ashley was, like, "I'm going back to L.A.!" He couldn't have looked happier if was flying the plane.

He said he was gonna be around a week so I took a deep breath and..................




I knew he had plans for that night but, without putting him on the spot, I told him that if he wanted, I would take him to celebrate. (I couldn't ask him at a recent performance because there were too many people around.) He politely declined, saying he didn't know what his schedule was gonna be like and that his parents were coming to visit. (and then I read Amanda's post that they were already here . ) I'm not offended. I just took a chance. Was it nervy of me? Yeah, I guess so. Wrong?

I'm shocked!

I only saw the show a few times but the audiences seemed really into it. When I went one weeknight it looked more like a Saturday night and another time "Tracy" (I forgot who it was that day) got a standing ovation.

At the Bryant Park concert, back in July, I asked Ashley if he would consider re-isgning if they asked him and although he said nothing had yet been signed past the current contract (making it sound like it could, maybe, be a possibility) he was kinda hesistant. Athough he didn't mention anything specific projects it seemed like he was ready to get back to the music and/or pursue other oppurtunities.

I don't know if he would have any previous knowledge about the closing; I think not but, of course, I could be wrong. "Hairspray" is a very physical show and I could see where after close to 2 years an actor would be ready to move on. It's hard to keep up that kind of pace for a long time. I'm sorry the show is closing but I agree it's always good to finish when things are going well. I heard he's planning on going to acting school (of which *AHEM* New York has plenty of.)

The good thing is he said (at a diiferent time) that he would like to do another show. I just hope he doesn't wait too long!

I guess I'm physic. Who knew?

Yeah, isn't it funny how things work out? Speaking of which.....

What a coincedence that the show's closing date is January; the same month that Ashley started.
