I really hope that doesn't happen in FL again.
I must say I agree with Christina. I think Kerry is the lesser of two evils. But I mean it's totally cool for you guys to think Bush is too. It just depends on your views. Kristie, I'm glad you like JFK. He is my mom's favorite President and I did a report on him last year for my Modern History class. Very awesome guy! =) I was just wondering though if anyone had plans to vote for Nader? It's all Kerry-Bush, I was just wondering if anyone was opting to vote for him instead. I signed a petition last night to help get his name on the ballot here in Michigan. I think it's important that there be another choice for those who don't agree with either of the two main parties. Also, I bought the new Time magazine with Kerry and Edwards on the cover. The article on Edwards was really good. So if any of you are interested in finding out more about him, you should go pick it up! =) Crystal |

I thought about voting for Nader during the last election.. (Very seriously thought about it) - but realized that by voting for Nader, I would just have been helping to get Gore in office, and I didnt want that. So, I voted for Bush.

Quote: LMFAO. Word. Ugh. K, you guys...I usualllllly don't discuss politics because, as a southern woman, I was raised that there are two things you don't discuss in open forums: politics and religion. Reason being because peoples views differ so much on those two. ANYWAY. Yesterday, I couldn't help myself. I LIT SOME MARRIED COUPLE UP in the middle of TGIFridays. Here's the thing...it's OK to not like the war (because DUH, who does like war of ANY kind?)...but it is NOT OK to BASH the TROOPS fighting in that war. I HAD ENOUGH and I just let loose on this guy who was being snotty and saying how the troops are stupid for fighting for a president like George W. and on and on and on....it was just BLATANT ignorance, really. First of all, my ex-boyfriend (who I still care VERY deeply for) is on the front lines in Iraq...as is one of my cousins. You know what though? THEY WANT TO BE. Before the war even STARTED they wanted to be. Know why? Because they GIVE A DAMN about our country and what happens to their loved ones living IN IT. My cousin found out I've been wanting to go over to Europe (and my parents were thinking about paying for it) and he FREAKED...said it isn't safe for me over there and to stay here. See, the thing is....people bash this war...and we REALLY don't know everything that's going on and to be honest, we should probably ALL be glad that we don't. Talk about mass hysteria. Geez. All I know is that two people I love very much are serving on the front lines and I love them both for doing something a LOT of Americans aren't doing right now...supporting their country. Just to close...the lyrics to "American Soldier" by Toby Keith: Im just tryin to be a father, raise a daughter and a son Be a lover to their mother, everythin to everyone Up and at em bright and early, Im all business in my suit Yeah Im dressed up for success, from my head down to my boots I dont do it for money, theres bills I that I cant pay I dont do it for the glory, I just do it anyway Providing for our futures, my responsibility Yeah Im real good under pressure, being all that I can be And I cant call in sick on Mondays when the weekends been too strong I just work straight through the holidays, and sometimes all night long You can bet that I stand ready, when the wolf growls at the door Hey Im solid, hey Im steady, hey Im true down to the core. And I will always do my duty no matter what the price Ive counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice Oh and I dont want to die for you, but if dyins asked of me Ill bear that cross with honor, cause freedom dont come free. Im an American Soldier an American Beside my brothers and my sisters, I will proudly take a stand When libertys in jeopardy, I will always do whats right Im out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight American Soldier, Im an American, Soldier. *steps off soap box* LMFAO |

I wish I could vote. I've been follow this election very closely. I would, like Heather, vote for the lesser of the two evils. That's John Kerry for me. I considered myself a Republican up until about a month ago when I started reading up more on the party and their views. I'd kind of like to think of myself as a right-wing democrat now.

I agree with you Kristie about bashing the soliders. One of my old friends older brother is in the Marines and he's being sent to Iraq. I don't really agree with the war at all, but I think that even though I don't like it, I have to support the troops. They're fighting for something they believe in, and for our country and that's really awesome. It's something I know I'd never be able to do myself, so they've got alot of guts. =)
Quote: The only Republican from recently that I do sort of like is John McCain. If he would have ran in 2000, and I would have been able to vote I would have considered voting for him. But as for now, now that I've read alot about both parties, I'm Democrat all the way. I'm very very liberal now. Crystal |

I'm pretty conservative myself. I'd say I'm pretty religious as well. But I don't feel that my beliefs should limits somebody else's civil liberties.

This is a touchy subject to be discussing here, but for the most part we are adults and can handle things in a mature fashion. So here I go, I am very much against this war , for the reasons (or lack there of) we got into it. However, I am probably one of the most patriotic people in the world and I definitely support the troops who are over there. Just because the soldiers are there doesn't necessarily mean they agree with being there. It is definitely WRONG to call soldiers stupid for fighting the war, most of them don't have a choice. My feelings on things are there is a lot of information out there that we ourselves censor, the media censors, or that we are strongly influenced by some other factors. I just encourage people to read up on ALL candiates and their issues before making a decision come Novemeber. Sometimes you might be suprised who's corner you are in!

Once upon a time in IO, this thread would have been 15 pages long by now; with around 5 people at each other's necks; Laura and I saying "but in BRITAIN we see it like this..."; and a Mod saying "if this thread get any more out of control it'll be locked."

Oh believe me I could say ALOT Amz, but to me it's not really worth it. I know how I feel and no one is going to change that and I'm sure that's how others feel as well. If people like and want to vote for Kerry that's what their going to do and same with Bush. I'm not gonna get worked up about a topic on a message board.

I am definately voting for Kerry. He wasn't my favorite choice for a Democratic candidate originally- I liked Westley Clark- but I personally would take almost anyone over Bush right now. Edwards is a good V.P. choice, so hopefully he will win some votes for Kerry.
As far as Kerry being really well off financially, be it because of his wife's money or not, I don't see why that makes a difference. Bush's family has plenty of money as well, and George W's family's connections and wealth definately helped him reach the presidency. Really, you have to be filthy rich to even have a chance of being president, with all the expenses involved. Or be poor with lots of rich friends. ~Carina |
