It was amazing. I got to work with people from all across the country, and the residents whose houses we gutted were so grateful for everything that we were doing. Our first resident whose house we gutted is in remission from cancer so he can't be around the toxins that are in the mold and the mud. But he did stop by everyday just to see the progress. Our second resident has severe asthma so he can't be around the mold. We gutted his house in one day so he did come by to check out our progress.

Seeing it firsthand is unbelieveable. If you listen to the media, you have a mindset that it's not that bad down there. There is so much stuff that the media hasn't shown, and to the people that said the French Quarter is ok, they lie. I mean there are some places that are open, but it's not what it should be.

It was a life changing experience, and I am thrilled that God was watching over my youth group the entire week.

You know what when we first went down there we had no idea what to expect. I mean I saw what you would see on TV and them saying that things look good, and we tend to believe what the media says.

That first day, I was so scared because we were going into a house that was untouched (untouched as in, it looks like it did exactly after the hurricane hit). We didn't know what to expect.

When you drive around for 45 minutes just to find the little things that you need daily, it hits you that the area is not livable yet. The day we arrived we were told that a major grocery store was opened, and it was on the West Side of New Orleans. It was the first major store to open since the hurricane.

You know they told us to listen to these people's story. Now that I'm home, I want people to hear my story of what is still going on. These people are so grateful for any amount of help. The resident of the first house I worked on is in remission from cancer and recently had sinus surgery, and was forbidden to be around his house, just because of the mold and other toxins.

It was such a moving experience to hear the residents thank us for our help, and that it means so much to them, and they realize that we only did a small part, and even though it was a small part, people notice.

On the top of the x was the date the house was searched, to the left of the x was search party found it, (eg, IL would be Illnois, AZ: Arizona), and the number at the bottom, was there were no bodies/ no one at the house at the time. If a body would have been found it was marked 1 D.O.A (dead on arrival).

If there was a box with a line through it that is the exact spot where people were rescued from.

Also if there were the letters NE on the house it meant No Entry.

There were a couple more markings but we didn't get any explanations as to what they were.

It was an amazing experience. It changed my life. One of the most emotionally challengeing things I've ever done, and if I had the opportunity to go down again, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

So I say a prayer everyday for the people of the gulf coast, for them to gain the strength to move on, start over, and just rebuild.
